Inspired by the bright colors of a summer day and filled with sentimental details of a love story that unfolded on the Eastern Shore, Leah and Joshua celebrated their wedding day in the gardens at Okiawampe Estate, the residence of the bride’s parents. A colorful reception in hues of emerald green, cadmium orange and fuchsia followed at the Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club. Incorporating two themes into their wedding- the ginkgo leaf, a symbol of longevity and strength(and their favorite tree); and the peapod, because family and friends called them “two peas in a pod” based on their similarities- this artistic couple found clever ways to embrace their motifs. “We used the ginkgo on our invitations, the watercolor paintings we did as favors for our guests, and on a ceramic wedding vase made by my mother that was used in the ceremony.” Cupcakes were stacked on a four-tier stand topped with a polymer clay “peas in a pod” cake topper. The bride wore an ivory strapless gown by White Rose Bridal with beaded overlay. “I wanted to have pieces of my loved ones with me as I walked down the aisle so I added one of my paternal grandmother’s buttons to use for the bustle.” Jewelry included a set of pearls, a recent gift from the bride’s father; and a charm bracelet representing family members. Wearing emerald green sundresses, each bridesmaid carried a bouquet composed of one of the types of flowers that comprised the bride’s bouquet including dahlias, roses, daisies, lilies and sunflowers. The bride wore blue bachelor buttons in her hair for her “something blue” and the groom wore the same for his boutonniere. Moments that moved them? For Joshua, it was the first glimpse of Leah as she appeared at the end of the aisle. “I couldn’t stop smiling and my eyes filled with tears because she looked more beautiful than all the paintings in the world.” For Leah, it was a solitary moment together after the reception was over, when they walked back down the aisle again, blasting the Beatles, “All You Need is Love” and dancing under the stars. “There were tears in my eyes and I felt so very loved.”
