Where it all happened The ceremony was at Epworth United Methodist Church. The church has 22 stained glass windows (some Tiffany) and one of the largest organs in Virginia. We made a unique entrance from the balcony. Our reception site was the Half Moone Cruise and we chose a date when all of his friends from the fi re station could be there. a floral event We wanted vibrant tropical flowers that were full of color and life.

Our florist Debbie Pence from Fluttering Flowers did an incredible job giving us a modern elegant look. We chose bright festive colors in purples, raspberries, pink and vibrant greens using orchids, peonies, calla lilies, hydrangea and other extraordinary flowers. the bride wore My romantic and elegant gown was by Allure from All the Rage. I felt incredible in the dress from the minute I put it on and didn’t want to take it.

She passed away from ovarian cancer when I was 12 so I wanted to wear something of hers on my wedding day. My something new was diamond
earrings and a diamond necklace from my parents. My best friend Heather loaned me her blue flowered handkerchief that was a family heirloom. the groom wore A two-button tuxedo by Calvin Klein.

Moments to remember Stopping at the top of the balcony at the church and waving to Joe. I remember feeling total bliss and happiness looking down on the man I was about to marry.

Joe’s father/daughter dance with his daughter Kylie to “Little Surfer Girl” was a touching moment. We also did a Ukrainian tradition where the bride tosses the bouquet and then the bride’s mother and grandmother take the veil off the bride and place a babushka on her head. This and many other Ukrainian traditions made our event unique.

The celebration Our wedding planner Missy Christianson from Antonia Christianson Events helped make it happen without a hitch. Strictly Bizzness was our band and they did some costume changes and learned to play my favorite song and performed it. Cuisine & Company catered it and the food was spectacular. We had a station of Ukrainian foods: pierogies and Kielbasa; Italian food; and a shrimp and grits station for my dad. Joe requested a chocolate fountain and as a surprise, his groom’s cake was in the shape of his fire fighter helmet.

Jeremy Kilgore from Blue Steel Pro Lighting lit the room and made it look fantastic. Missy also set up a children’s room with a
babysitter and food for them. We had a Wii set up along with games and coloring books - it was a huge hit! In lieu of favors, we made a donation to the Central Virginia Burn Camp because Joe was badly burnt in a fire in 2003. the parting memory We left on a trolley with some of the guests and family members. We were happy being around them all. We were exhausted but excited about our future and our honeymoon to Barbados.
